Sholing 0 – 5 AFC Totton

The young Stags bounced back with a 5 Star performance this afternoon with a convincing victory away at Sholing. Totton dominated from the start and came close to taking the lead after 8 minutes. A free kick from the right was played in to Josh Carey, who headed over the bar from close range. After 10 minutes Sam Muddiman picked out Tyler Beech and his deep cross to Josh Carey was headed just wide of the post.

Totton continued to create chances and won a penalty with 20 minutes of the game gone. Josh Carey was brought down as he turned inside the box and Harry Edmondson stepped up to score the resulting kick. Totton were looking dangerous whenever they attacked, but they had to wait until 30 minutes before they doubled the lead. George Toal played a ball inside to Jack Diaper, who in turn picked out Josh Carey half way inside the Sholing half. His through ball allowed Connor Stevens to run on, dribble round the keeper and slot the ball into the empty net.

Totton continued to move the ball around well and scored a 3rd goal after 38 minutes in what was a carbon copy of the previous goal. Harry Edmondson’s surging run through the middle ended with a pass to Josh Carey, who ran past the advancing keeper and knocked the ball into the empty net.

Just before half time Totton again went close with a good flowing move. Josh Carey passed the ball to Connor Stevens who backheeled to James Matthews on the edge of the box, but his shot flew just over the bar.

Half Time: Sholing 0-3 AFC Totton

Totton dominated the play from the start of the second half, never allowing the home side to settle. On 51 minutes Sholing pushed forward with a rare attack but shot wide from the edge of the penalty area. With 58 minutes gone, Totton scored the 4th goal of the afternoon from a corner. Connor Stevens floated the ball into the box and from 12 yards out, Patryk Lachowicz saw his overhead kick fly over the keeper and into the goal.

Totton continued to control the game with some resolute defending and a real purpose moving forward in attack. With 79 minutes gone, Totton made it 5-0 when Matt Wotton finished off a fine move following a good run from Shahram Jalal down the left. Minutes later, Sholing somehow failed to score a consolation goal when they had 3 efforts blocked inside the 6-yard box. Keeper Mitchell Jackson finally pounced on the loose ball after it hit the post.

On 83 minutes, Sam Muddiman’s crossfield pass picked out James Matthews just inside the Sholing half. He ran down the right and passed inside to Matt Wotton, who fired just over the bar. Moments later Matt Wotton had another chance, but he pulled his shot wide from the edge of the box.

After 87 minutes Dominic Kay’s 50-yard pass picked out James Matthews on the right. He raced past the defender and passed inside to Jack Diaper, who from 20 yards rifled the ball just over the bar. With the game in stoppage time, Shahram Jalal’s surging run down the left, saw him cut inside and shoot just wide of the goal.
