AFC Totton v Paulton Rovers on Sat 14th is our annual “Christmas Jumper Day”
Following successful appeals in 2017 and 2018, this years appeal will focus on providing for the most vulnerable, isolated and marginalised within our immediate communities with the Children’s Appeal providing toys, books, games, puzzles and soft toys for youngsters aged 2 to 18 and our Adult Appeal seeking donations of tinned food, hats, gloves, scarves, books, tea and coffee.
AFC Totton’s Vice Chairman, David Penny, formally kicked off the 2019 Appeal alongside Councillor Neville Penman with both explaining more about the launch and the appeal’s objectives.
Dave Penny; “The Christmas Appeal has been one of our key programmes at the club with everyone from players, supporters and sponsors helping to donate to either or both campaigns. It was also vital to have Councillor Penman alongside us today to not only kickstart the appeals, but to blow the whistle on isolation, marginalisation and exclusion. The club have always sought to work hard to support Councillor Penman’s unparalleled, tireless work for the community with projects such as the bus route to the hospital, modernisation of the town railway station and programmes to reduce both crime and antisocial behaviours in the area. It seemed only right that someone such as the Councillor who gives so much personally to the people of the area was alongside us to get this year up and rolling. Like us, Neville believes in every person in the community, and believes that every one of those voices needs to be heard and this is our way together at this time of year to put our own words into practice.”
Councillor Penman; “We are so fortunate to have a football club that is led by people who want the club to be right at the centre of our community. AFC Totton is not just a football team on a Saturday, but a way of life for many, a way of life that continues to develop innovative new ways of not just reaching out but embracing the community. It is not a football club just for those who can play the game or people who go along to watch, it is a family that is forever welcoming to everyone across our area, a family that is always looking to provide support and put a smile onto people’s faces. It’s a massive privilege for me to be involved in launching this year’s appeal, but it is truly humbling to know how much every corner of the community will get behind it and help more people to enjoy this wonderful time of the year.”
To donate to the AFC Totton Big Community Appeal, donations can be made at the AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium, and over the coming days, we will announce further partners where donations can be dropped off.
The appeal runs until The Carols in the Stand Nativity Carol Service at AFC Totton on Sunday 15th December 2019 after which all donations will then be distributed by the army of Stags’ elves to the immediate community.
If you can donate, or you have a child / adult that you would like to nominate, please contact Club Chaplain, Simon Young, firstname.lastname@example.org
