Carey penalty gives Stags U18’s a decent win.

A solid performance saw the Young Stags gain victory at the HP Arena. Totton went close to taking an early lead on 5 minutes when Jack Diaper saw his 25 yard free kick hit the bar. After 10 minutes Patryk Lachowicz received a through pass from James Matthews just inside the box, but his shot from the left was kicked away by the keeper. With 16 minutes gone, a Stoneham attack was thwarted when Tyler Beech intercepted a diagonal ball at full stretch, just outside his penalty area.

After 19 minutes Totton went close when Jack Diaper floated a free kick to Ben Pike who headed over the bar from12 yards out. With 21 minutes gone Stoneham went close when a shot from 25 yards was saved by Stags keeper Mitchell Jackson. Minutes later Josh Carey won the ball 25 yards out but curled his shot just over the bar. After 30 minutes, some good play between James Matthews & Matt Wotton ended with Jack Diaper shooting just wide from 20 yards. Stoneham went close on 32 minutes when a free kick played into the box was volleyed just wide of the far post.

After 35 minutes Totton were awarded a penalty when Patryk Lachowicz was pulled back as he cut inside the area from the left. Josh Carey stepped up to fire the ball home to give Totton the lead. Totton almost doubled their lead just before half time. Josh Carey played the ball through to James Matthews, but his shot from inside the box went just past the far post.

A triple substitution by manager Mark Diaper at half time saw Sam Muddiman, Sam Richardson & Shahram Jalal replace Sam Cattle, Patryk Lachowicz & Aaron McKeown.

Totton began the second half strongly and after 51 minutes Matt Wotton picked out James Matthews on the right. He ran down the wing & crossed to Shahram Jalal who headed wide of the goal. On 55 minutes a Totton attack saw James Matthews pass inside to Shahram Jalal who knocked it back to Matt Wotton on the edge of the box, but he fired over the bar.

Totton continued to dominate the game, but it was Stoneham who went close on 68 minutes from a dangerous ball in from a corner. Keeper Mitchell Jackson was clattered to the ground as he punched the ball away, with the resulting loose ball hit over the bar.

After 76 minutes Jack Diaper on the halfway line passed the ball to James Matthews. His cross field pass picked out Shahram Jalal who ran down the left before shooting just wide.
After 85 minutes Josh Carey ran down the left & his shot flew just over the bar. On 86 minutes Stoneham were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal. The ball was played into the box with the Stoneham player turning & shooting just over the bar.

In the 92nd minute, James Matthews clever back heal allowed Marco Gashi to burst forward & cross to Josh Carey, but the Totton striker headed just over the bar.
