Drama at AFC Totton as a piece of WW2 ordnance found in clubs bin!

Drama at AFC Totton as a piece of WW2 ordnance found in clubs bin!

An unexpected drama unfolded at the Testwood Community Stadium today and it wasn’t anything to do with Louis Langdown unveiling another new signing. At approximately 10am one of the ground staff went to put something in the outside bin and he was shocked at what he found. There was something resembling what looked like a piece of a WW2 bomb.

How it came to be in the club’s bin remains a mystery, but the clubs vice chairman Dave Penny was on site and he was called to look at the item and give his opinion on what he thought it might be. Dave looked at it and he sent a picture of it to his Son in law who used to in Army logistics. His son in laws advice was to run!!!

Dave called the Police and when they arrived they sent photos to the Royal Navy’s bomb disposal unit. The Police were advised to put in place a 100-metre exclusion zone around the Stadium which resulted in the closure of part of the Calmore Industrial estate. After the Bomb disposal unit examined the item it was eventually decided that it was harmless. The drama lasted for around two and a half hours.
