Former Stags chairman Ian Shields has passed away.
Most AFC Totton fans will remember 2007 and the clubs trip to Wembley in the final of the FA Vase. Supporters remember many of the players, and of course the manager Stuart Ritchie and his assistant Sean New who led their team out at Wembley. The Stags went went on to achieve great success in the 5 years or so after the Vase final. However, at the start of that ‘successful period’ the club had a chairman who occasionally had his face in the Daily Echo, but, i think it is fair to say he didn’t seek publicity, he just went about the business of running the football club. That man was Ian Shields and today the club received the sad news that Ian had passed away after a period of illness.

Ian was a well respected guy in local football, having coached a few boys teams down the years, as well as coaching reserve sides at BAT, Romsey and of course AFC Totton. Ian ended up becoming chairman of the Stags in 2006, replacing Richie Maton, he spent three years at the helm before he stepped aside for Alan Davis in 2009.
During his reign as chairman the club reached the final of the FA Vase in 2007 (as mentioned above) and they won the Wessex League Championship in 2008.
AFC Totton would like to send their love and thoughts to Ian’s widow Sheila at this very sad time.
As soon as we have Ian’s funeral details we will let everybody know.
