Haynes agrees to stay with the Stags!
AFC Totton manager Louis Langdown has received a huge boost, with the news that exciting young midfielder Alex Haynes has agreed his 1st contract with the club that will keep him at the Testwood Community Stadium for the 2019/20 season.
Haynes in action at Melksham last season
Langdown said “Alex deserves his first contract with the club, he’s been a mainstay of the side since claiming a spot in midfield. He’s a youth team graduate and one of a very few that show a real determination and patience to break through. It’s not always an easy ride, no one will know he played two seasons for nothing, he’s had ups and downs on the way, but he’s a winner. He’s a team player, and that shows with his team mates voting him player of the season. It’s right that we as a club reward him, he’s a perfect example to anyone that loyalty and some balls gets you where you want to be. Make no mistake, he’s got quality too, and another big year for him and I see no reason why he can’t move on and higher up the pyramid, although we’d probably have to lock the doors at the Testwood to stop him coming back”.
The ever improving Haynes said ” I am overwhelmed and grateful to be offered my first contract with a club I’ve been part of since joining the youth set up at 16. Since stepping up the management staff, players and fans have been nothing but supportive of me, helping me win a place in the side and I’m confident we can deliver more good football next season”.
Langdown’s squad is gradually coming together. Last Friday the Stags added another product of the Eastleigh youth academy to his squad for next season. Matt Simm told us “I’m very happy to be signing for AFC Totton, I was extremely impressed with the facilities & their professional approach to everything. They’re also not afraid to give young players like myself opportunities so it’s a no brainer for me. Can’t wait to start”.
Langdown said “Matt offers good competition down our right side, we probably lacked that last season. He’s had a taste of southern league football with Moneyfields & we’re hopeful he can push on this season”.
