Langdown strengthens Stags squad with Byrne & Stares.
Stags add Gowan Stares and Mitchell Byrne to their squad
Gowan is a new addition to the squad. A former New Zealand U20 international player Gowan has more recently played for Redditch United in the Southern Premier Division Central. After spending time training at Worthing FC he came across the work of the Football Family, a foundation created by Louis and Adam, and made contact via email. Gowan has trained well and impressed in the 6-0 pre-season friendly victory over Aldershot U23’s. Comfortable in playing in midfield or defence, the 24 year old offers good versatility and experience to our young squad.
Mitchell is already well known to the lads having arrived on dual registration from Team Solent last season. But after playing two games for the club, the then 17 year old suffered a nasty injury than kept him out of football for 6 months. Returning to sign permanently at the start of pre-season, Mitchell is nearing his way to full fitness and is the reason he did not feature in the any of the pre-season games.
Louis’s thoughts “Gowan’s arrival is a huge bonus and if we can get him fit, he will add a competitive edge to the side. He arrived a little left-field and is largely an unknown to the local scene, but he’ll make a big impression from what we have seen. He read the game well, and has decent technique. Mitchell turned 18 last weekend, he’s already got two seasons in the Wessex Premier under his belt with what was a good Team Solent outfit. I rate the lad highly, and before his injury I witnessed Mitchell look at home when training with Swindon Town’s U18’s. We need to plot his journey back to Southern League football after a lengthy lay off, but he’s perfectly placed to learn from Dave and Jack.
