Larkhall Athletic vs AFC Totton – Preview

Larkhall Athletic v AFC Totton – Preview.

AFC Totton face a big week in Southern League Division One South, with two very difficult away games in the space of 4 days. The first of those games is on this Wednesday evening when the Stags travel to Larkhall Athletic (7.30pm). Larkhall have had a mixed start to the campaign and sit just inside the top half of the table, having Won 2 Drawn 1 and Lost 2 of their 5 League games so far. The Larks had a reasonable run in the FA Cup, where they reached the 3rd qualifying round after knocking out Newton Abbott Spurs, Bitton and Frome Town (On pens). The Larks cup run came to an abrupt end with a 6-0 defeat at Weston Super Mare.

Manager Phil Bater has a good squad at his disposal, and it’s a squad that looks capable of making the play off this season. Many of the Larks squad have been with the club for a while, and they have some key individuals within their group. Firstly most AFC Totton fans will be aware that Lewis Powell likes to get on the score-sheet against the Stags, he has done so on many occasions with the clubs he has played for over the years. Larkhall also have good players like Joe Tumelty and Alex Lambert. Daniel Demkiv is another good striker who impressed me when he was with Mangotsfield United and they have Brad Norris who is a very capable of posing us problems.

Our record at Plain ham over the years has been nothing to write home about. We have Won 1 Drawn 2 and Lost 3 of our 6 visits, since the Larks promotion to the Southern League in 2014.

Our only win there came in the 2017, when an 89th minute winner from Nimes Pina won us the game, and what a goal it was! I can still picture him curling the ball into the top right hand corner from the left angle of the 18 yard box. I remember Nimes running around swinging his yellow shirt in the air being chased by his team mates who couldn’t keep up with him! HOWEVER, many Totton fans will not be aware that THAT GOAL is the ONLY goal we have ever scored at Plain Ham. Both of our draws there were goalless affairs.

Our overall record v Larkhall reads P 12 W3 D3 L6 F9 A18

It must be said that this current AFC Totton squad is the strongest one we have had for 7 or 8 years, So hopefully, we can go there and pull off a positive result on Wednesday evening. You can keep up with what is going on by keeping an eye on the AFC Totton twitter account. There will be regular updates there throughout the evening.
