STAGS SLIP TO DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT
By Sean McGlead at The Testwood Stadium

AFC Totton and Yate Town were two of the three sides with maximum points prior to this afternoons meeting at The Testwood Stadium. Totton had the first effort with Kyle O’ Brien shooting over from 20 yards. Yate quickly took the initiative though, when James Harmer called Totton keeper Steve Mowthorpe into action with a low shot in the 5th minute. Dale Evans put a 25 yard free kick over the bar on 9 minutes. Yate were switching the ball around nicely, but Totton were allowing Yate too much time on the ball. Joe Chandler and Jordan Rogers both had efforts for the Bluebells prior to half time and Liam Gilbert even had to clear an effort off of the line to keep the Stags on terms, I don’t think anybody in the ground would argue that the Stags could count themselves very fortunate to go in level at the break.
Totton started better in the 2nd half and they were rewarded when Nathaniel SHERBORNE smashed home from 8 yards after good work from Craig Feeney down the left. Yate then came back at Totton and centre half Andy Lewis had a header go wide after a left wing corner. A Ross Staley cross was then headed over the bar by the impressive Jordan Rogers. However Yate were not to be denied any longer. The Bluebells levelled things up on 73 minutes when Jake JACKSON slipped the ball past Mowthorpe after a ricochet off of a Totton defender. Disaster then struck for the Stags in the 80th minute when a poor headed clearance by Ellis White fell to Yates Tom WARREN who smashed home from 8 yards. Nathaniel Sherborne tried to pull Totton level when he flicked the ball up over two defenders but he rather snatched at his shot that flew a few feet wide of Horsell’s left hand post. Yate wrapped up the points deep into added time when Jake JACKSON added his 2nd and Yates 3rd goal.
After two great away victories the Stags were brought back down to earth by a very good Yate Town side. They seemed a very streetwise team who can be in the mix come next April. The Totton lads must bounce back quickly and get this result out of their system and they have a chance to do this when they entertain Swindon Supermarine at The Testwood Stadium this coming Tuesday 7.45pm.
