The Stags headed to Ladysmead, the home of Tiverton Town for their final game of the 2014/15 season feeling a whole lot better after finally ending their long run without a win last week at home to Bishops Cleeve.

Stags bess Steve Hollick made one change to the side that faced Bishops Cleeve, by bringing in Dan Beckles for the injured Ellis white. Beckles went in to the centre of defence and Stuart Mott was moved to right back.

Tiverton started the brighter of the two sides, but it was Totton who produced the first chance of the game when Nathaniel Sherborne pounced upon a bouncing ball on the left hand edge of the box. The Stags No 11 produced a shot that fizzed across the face of the goal but the ball went wide of the far post.

The home side retaliated with a chance of their own on 5 minutes when Owen Howe tried a shot from 14 yards out that was well wide of Steve Mowthorpe’s goal.

The Totton defence was doing quite well and keeping a good shape in the early stages, but after 12 minutes a bit of uncertainty allowed Tony Lee to get in a first time shot from the right hand side of the box that went just wide of the far post.

On the half hour mark Jake Burgess tried his luck with an attempted shot that deflected off of Hessain Heidari and into the path of Jack Hoey on the left hand side of the box, Hoey rushed his shot and it went wide of the right hand post, maybe Hoey could have left the shot for Sherborne who was just to his left.

Totton were awarded a free kick out on the left after a foul on Sherborne. Gilbert took the free kick and it was met by Stuart Mott who flicked the ball harmlessly wide.

Jack Hoey then produced a lovely pass for Nathan Hurst on the right of the box, Hurst was faced with an acute angle. but he still managed to get in a shot which hit the side netting with Tivvy keeper Chris Wright rushing towards him.

In an end to end and first half Tiverton forced a corner that was taken by Matt Bye, but was headed over by Tom Gardner.

Jake Burgess then played in Sherborne just before half time and Sherborne had a 20 yard effort that went a few feet wide.

Right at the start of the 2nd half Tiverton replaced Steve Goss with Jimmy Hinds.

After 51 minutes Totton’s promising young midfielder Jake Burgess tried an audacious shot from 20 yards that was deflected just over the crossbar.

On 65 minutes Tiverton wasted a golden opportunity when Ethan Phillips got down the left wing and whipped in a cross that arrived at the back of the 6 yard box for Owen Howe who thumped a shot of off the right hand post when it looked easier to score.

Totton then made their 1st substitution when they replaced Craig Feeney with Jake Rawkins after 65 minutes.

Tiverton were starting to pin Totton back and Owen Howe was again given the chance to break the deadlock, but this time the Tivvy striker put his shot wide from the right hand side of the box.

Tiverton then made two more substitutions bringing on George Rogers for Alex Faux and Oliver Seymour for Matt Bye.

Owen Howe was then denied twice more, firstly Mowthorpe saved a shot from him after 76 minutes then from the resulting corner Howe came in with a firm header that Jamie Blackburn did really well to clear off of the line.

Then totally against the run of play the Stags stole the lead. Jake Rawkins managed to clear the way for Jamie Blackburn to whip over a low left wing cross that was met by the arriving Nathaniel SHERBORNE who smashed the ball home just inside the left hand post from six yards out.

Totton then made a 2nd substitution bringing on James Jennings for Jack Hoey.

Tiverton piled some late pressure on the Stags in an effort to get an equaliser. on 88 minutes a left wing corner was headed over by Ethan Phillips, then on 90 minutes a 35 yard free kick from Tivvy player of the season James Richards was pushed wide by Steve Mowthorpe.

In injury time Tiverton’s Tony Lee headed wide from a corner, but it was to no avail for the home side as the Stags held on for the three points.
