SURE-FIRE STAGS SCORE FIVE PAST BRACKNELL

In a battle of two sides just outside the play-offs, AFC Totton dramatically snapped Bracknell Town’s winning run with a 5-1 demolition.

After a slow start in inhospitable weather, both sides began to find some form and the hosts could have taken the lead, but Lewis Noice saved well from Jordan Espirit. This fired up the away side, who took the lead when Scott RENDELL powered home a near-post header from a corner. The Stags quickly doubled their advantage when Leon MALONEY capitalised on Ethan Taylor’s cross. Bracknell refused to let their heads drop, and pulled a goal back when Nana OWUSU blasted an unstoppable effort into the Totton goal, but the visitors restored their two-goal advantage before the interval when RENDELL grabbed his second, heading in again, this time from Benny Read’s delivery.

Any hopes of a home comeback were snuffed out in the pouring rain shortly after half-time when George Knight received his marching orders for a second bookable offence. From that point forward only one winner ever looked likely, and Totton capitalised with great play from Matty Burrows marauding down the left wing before cutting back to allow Ethan TAYLOR to score his first of the season. Scott RENDELL finished the rout and sealed his hat-trick with the pick of the bunch, a beautiful curled effort from just outside the area, as the Stags ran out deserved winners at the final whistle.
