STAGS PROGRESS IN INTENSE FA TROPHY AFFAIR

AFC Totton progressed into the first-round proper of the FA Trophy with a 2-0 home victory over Dorchester Town. It was a hotly anticipated fixture given Glenn Howes and James Wood’s departure to the Magpies earlier this week. In Dan Sackman’s first game as caretaker manager, the Stags had to produce a resolute defensive display in the first half. After Dorchester dominated the opening exchanges, Kieran Roberts was able to flash a ferocious shot just wide of Amad Skrzyniarz’s goal. Skrzyniarz was forced into more action shortly after, most notably from Flavio Tavares. Just when the teams seemed destined to go in level at half-time, Ethan Taylor played in Hisham KASIMU to round Harrison Lee and tuck the ball into an empty net, sending the home support into raptures. Totton started the stronger side in the second period, with Harry Medway seeing a header saved before a scramble was also collected by Lee. Jordan Raguette also had a superb chance, lashing a deflected effort just wide. With four minutes of normal time left, the Stags doubled their lead as TAYLOR wriggled through the Dorch defence to power home at the near post. The home team were able to see out the game despite a late onslaught from Dorchester and secure a place in the draw for the next round, a strong performance to round off what had been a tumultuous week.
