PLUCKY STAGS MOVE INTO PLAY-OFFS WITH NARROW WIN
AFC Totton leapfrogged Hungerford Town into fifth spot in the Southern Premier Division South with a gritty 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Harrow Borough.
With many fixtures across the country postponed due to the cold weather conditions, 1,087 supporters watched a fairly dire first half performance from both sets of sides, neither of them mustering up a shot on target.
The second half started much brighter than the first, as Totton's endeavour was rewarded with some intricate play in the build-up to the goal on the hour-mark.
Scott Rendell received the ball in the attacking D and spotted Ethan TAYLOR in space in front of him. The striker threaded a fine pass through to Taylor, who calmly slotted his strike beyond the goalkeeper.
The management staff of Harrow Borough became increasingly frustrated with some on-field decisions by the referee and their own team's struggles; Jordan Berry, the manager, was eventually issued a yellow card for his protests.
Jimmy Ball's men really should have put the game to bed with four minutes of normal time to play, Joe Turner opted to take a tame effort on goal when Ethan Taylor was in acres of space on the left.
Harrow Borough probed as they looked to find an equaliser, but their last minute scramble in the home box came to no avail as the Stags held on for all three points.
AFC Totton return to action in midweek, hosting Dorchester Town on Tuesday 23 January.
