FEISTY HAMPSHIRE DERBY ENDS ALL SQUARE
Havant & Waterlooville and AFC Totton played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at Westleigh Park in an aggressively contested affair.
Both sides entered the game with unbeaten records, Totton having won their four opening fixtures and Havant & Waterlooville drawing three.
The Hawks broke the deadlock just before the half-hour, when Harvey BRADBURY leapt highest in the box to nod Ex-Stag Leon Maloney's free-kick delivery beyond Josh Gould.
The hosts were certainly the stronger of the two in the first half but the visitors exploded out of the blocks in the second.
Tom BLAIR flashed a wicked strike beyond the goalkeeper within 60 seconds of the restart, to record his first competitive goal for the club.
Tempers flared when Alfy Whittingham was issued a straight red card for a strong challenge on Tony Lee, before many Totton players joined him in the book.
The Stags probed for a late winner and introduced Ethan Taylor and Marcus Daws for some added creative spark.
They were also denied a penalty following an alleged handball from Hawks captain Joe McNerney, but the spoils were shared.
The result leaves AFC Totton top of the table, with 13 points from five games. Havant & Waterlooville's seven points places them in 10th spot.
