TOTTON TRIUMPH IN ENTERTAINING END-TO-END ENCOUNTER
AFC Totton returned to winning ways with a highly engrossing back-and-forth 2-1 victory over Hayes & Yeading United.
Both teams looked up for the game from the very first whistle, and it was the hosts who were able to steal an early march on their opponent. A quick goal kick from Lewis Noice was misjudged by the away defence to set Leon MALONEY free down the right wing, and he advanced into the box before finishing at the near post with an intuitive finish with the outside of his foot.
The breakneck pace continued throughout the first half, with Totton having the majority of possession, but there were no more goals to be found before the break.
The half-time interval allowed the players to get their energy levels back for the second half and maintain the game’s high tempo, and a good spell of pressure from the visitors was rewarded when captain Sanmi ODELUSI was able to bring the ball down in the area and arrow a shot into the bottom corner through a crowd of bodies.
Totton responded strongly and restored their lead on the hour mark. Ethan Taylor, freshly introduced as a substitute, produced a perfect cross with his first touch of the game, with star striker Scott RENDELL giving the Stags a lead they would not relinquish. Michael Fernandes arguably should have rescued a point for United, but he could only blast over the bar from three yards.
