TOTTON AND HENDON IN SWELTERING STALEMATE

AFC Totton and Hendon FC played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw on a sweltering September Saturday at the Snows Stadium.

In a high tempo first half chances were at a premium for either side, but the visitors came close to breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute when Niko Muir-Merchant saw his snapshot saved well by the feet of home goalkeeper Lewis Noice. Totton were quickly away down the other end, and could well have scored themselves, Jordan Ragguette fizzing through a superb cross that somehow evaded Scott Rendell at the back post as the first half finished goalless.

The Stags looked hungry after the interval, and got their rewards for their attacking endeavour when Leon Maloney’s deep cross was helped over the line for an own-goal by the unfortunate ETHAN LIGHT. This seemed to spark a renewed intensity in Hendon, and Kai Brosnan drove forward repeatedly, eventually finding NIKO MUIR-MERCHANT who found space in a crowd of bodies and found the bottom corner for the equaliser. Both sides searched for a winner, and a home counter-attack found Matty Burrows in space, but his pass to Jake Scrimshaw was superbly cut out by away captain Joe White. The visitors nearly snatched the win, with Florian Endouvou-Ada denied first by defender Sam Magri, then Lewis Noice, as the spoils were shared.
