TOOTHLESS TOTTON STUNG BY HORNETS

AFC Totton bowed out of the FA Trophy in the Third Round after falling to a 2-0 defeat away at Horsham.

Despite enjoying some decent spells of possession, the Stags failed to register a single shot on target at the Camping World Community Stadium as the Hornets ran out deserved winners.

After a fractured first half-hour, the Hornets broke the deadlock through captain Jack BRIVIO. The centre-half lurked at the back post following a deflected set-piece delivery and unorthodoxly stabbed home with his thigh.

Totton attempted to increase the urgency following the half-time interval but still struggled to break down a resolute Horsham defence.

Substitute Alfie Stanley almost brought the game back to level pegging, flashing a half-volleyed attempt just wide of the left-hand post with the Horsham goalkeeper, Lewis Carey, rooted to the spot.

Horsham should have put the game to bed as injury time approached, but Lewis Noice did excellently to thwart Shamir Fenelon after the forward attempted the round the ‘keeper following a one-on-one situation.

The Hornets did soon provide that lethal sting, however, as Daniel Ajakaiye showed some fine trickery down the left before clipping the ball towards the back post, where Jack MAZZONE nodded into a near-empty net to send Horsham into the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy.

AFC Totton remain in cup action this Wednesday, where they host Winsor Green United in the Southampton Senior Cup.
