TIRELESS TOTTON TRUMP TOWN IN TITLE CHARGE

AFC Totton overcame a gritty Melksham Town side at the Oakfield Stadium to go within one point of guaranteeing the Southern League Division One South title.

In a scrappy encounter which lacked fluidity, the defining moment came in the first half, where Mitchell-Carlton SPEECHLEY-PRICE tapped in Ethan Taylor's low cross after some fantastic and patient build-up play.

The visitors almost built on their lead in the second half, only for Mac Boyd to thwart Matty Burrows' efforts.

Melksham dominated possession in the dying embers but Lewis Noice was equal to their rare shots on goal.

The result leaves Totton nine points ahead of Sholing with three games to go, with the former's goal difference 22 superior to their Southampton rivals.
