ON-SONG STAGS INTO SECOND PLACE

AFC Totton produced a professional performance as they triumphed 3-0 over relegation-threatened Plymouth Parkway in Devon.

In a much-rearranged encounter due to the unusually wet winter in the South West, Totton made the long trip down to Bolitho Park on a Monday night, where a Parkway side playing every other day to catch up on postponed fixtures awaited them.

The visitors started on the front foot, keen to tire their opponents early, and were rewarded with an early goal for their efforts. Jordan Ragguette, newly returned from injury, curled a brilliant ball forward for Ethan Taylor, whose teasing back-post cross was turned in by Joan LUQUE.

The Stags would double their advantage before the interval. Leon MALONEY found some space in the opposition penalty area in the 32nd minute, cutting his finish across the ‘keeper into the bottom-right corner.

Plymouth Parkway rolled the dice at half-time, with two substitutions and a change of shape as they searched for a way back into the game, and while they were certainly brighter after the break it was the away side who would extend the scoreline just before the hour mark. Adam Tomasso took aim from the edge of the D after nice build-up play down the left-hand side, and his driven strike might well have gone in anyway, but the unfortunate Callum ROSE ended up sliding the ball into his own net for the game’s final goal.
