SUPER STAGS SCORE FIRST HOME WIN
AFC Totton returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over visiting Poole Town.
On a beautiful August evening, the home side started very brightly, with Matty Burrows in particular causing a particular threat throughout. A long ball forward to Burrows nearly resulted in the opener, as he was brought down in the box only for a lurking Jake Scrimshaw to pounce and power the ball home. The referee had however already blown his whistle awarding the penalty, and from twelve yards Scott Rendell saw his spot-kick superbly saved by visiting goalkeeper Luke Cairney.
The Stags continued to dictate proceedings before and after half-time, and finally made the breakthrough midway through the second half. Matty Burrows surged down the right wing into the penalty area, and picked his head up for an intelligent cut-back from the byline, where Jake SCRIMSHAW was waiting to convert and notch his first competitive goal in Totton colours.
The hosts were always favourites to seal the victory from that point onwards, although they did require a spectacular save from Lewis Noice to deny Tony Lee what seemed like an unlikely equaliser. The visitors had Wesley Fogden and coach Jody Rivers dismissed late on as frustrations boiled over on a disappointing night for the Dolphins, as Totton earned a well-deserved first home win of the campaign.
