STAGS SNATCH SHARE OF STOPPAGE TIME SPOILS

AFC Totton pulled off a remarkable comeback to earn a 2-2 draw at Walton & Hersham.

The first half was one of few chances, with the best falling to Totton’s Luke Bennett who did brilliantly to create space in the box, but his shot was tame and well saved by Tyla Dickenson.

The game was much livelier after the interval, and Walton & Hersham took the lead when right-back Harry POINTING spanked a thirty-yard screamer on his weak foot into the back of the net to stun the away defence. The visitors tried to find a way back into the game only to be repelled by the home side, with tempers boiling over for both sides at one stage before calming back down. The Swans doubled their lead on the stroke of stoppage time when Taurean McDONALD-ROBERTS converted from close range to seemingly seal the points.

The Stags continued to surge forward, and found a way back into the game when the hosts failed to clear a corner and a Joe OASTLER somehow squeaked over the line to set up a grandstand finish. The comeback was completed when Matty BURROWS, making his comeback from injury, drove down the right wing, cut into the penalty area, and unleashed a thunderous drive off the underside of the bar that left the goalkeeper with no chance to snatch a dramatic draw from the jaws of defeat.
