SENSATIONAL STAGS SCORE SIX OF THE BEST

AFC Totton romped to a remarkable 6-0 victory on the road over fierce local rivals Winchester City.

Totton looked to build on the momentum of their midweek victory over Poole Town and looked hungry from the get-go, although struggled to turn their dominance into goals until Matty BURROWS burst beyond the defence and clipped into the bottom corner to open the scoring. The visitors kicked on, doubling the advantage when a long-range free-kick from Leon MALONEY evaded everyone to nestle in the Winchester net. If there was an element of fortune about the second goal, there was no doubt about the third, as Leon MALONEY scored his second of the afternoon with a magnificent curling strike into the top corner from 30 yards.

Winchester were much livelier after half-time as the game became more open, but found themselves further behind when Luke Hallett headed across the face of goal and Scott RENDELL nodded home from all of two yards. Scott RENDELL grabbed the fifth goal from the spot, converting after the brilliant Burrows had been brought down in the area for the second time in two games. The star striker completed his hat-trick a short while later, the effervescent Maloney linking up with Scott RENDELL on the edge of the area, who converted via the base of the post.

When the final whistle blew, the Stags’ supporters celebrated a derby day triumph they are unlikely to ever forget.
