Pre Season – Stags 3 Brockenhurst 0

Pre Season – Stags 3 Brockenhurst 0

The Stags pre-season continued against stand in opponents Brockenhurst at Testwood Stadium as original opponents Havant & Waterlooville had to cancel due to an unusual amount of injuries in their playing squad.

Totton started the game the brighter looking side and just after Tobi Adekunle fired his effort from range just wide, Jack Masterton was unlucky to see his own effort smack the crossbar from around 25 yards out. Adekunle went close again, this Tim forcing Brock keeper Ed Kitcher to parry up and over the bar from a tight angle, before Alfy WHITTINGHAM (27) was able to get the better of the young goalkeeper, drawing him out before slotting home the finish.

Shortly afterwards, The Stags doubled their lead, a deflected Curtis Young cross found it’s way to ADEKUNLE (34) at the back post and the sharp winger beat his man and fired in off the post with a tidy finish. The Stags were able to see out the half with little threat from the visitors. HT 2-0

The second half panned out as comfortably as the first for Totton, with Curtis Young turning well and firing an early warning shot with a low drive a few feet wide. Nathaniel SHERBORNE (62)  able to wrap up the scoring after being set in the clear, he finished his one on one with no problem.

The Stags had other opportunities to extend their lead, with Nick Watts (trialists?) effort crashing back off the bar, after Masterton’s original effort had been cleared off the line. Substitute Harry Prisk was also unlucky to skew his effort away from goal in the wet conditions as The Stags pressed forward. Brockenhurst did offer Shane Murphy moments to deal with, but nothing the ex-Dorchester stopper wasn’t comfortable with. FT 3-0

A good performance from The Stags against an opposition we didn’t quite expect. Its always nice to see the side score goals and they certainly quenched that thirst this evening. Up next is a trip to Team Solent (Thurs 20th July, 7.30pm).
