The Young Stags secured a place in the Quarter Finals of the Floodlit Cup with a convincing victory against AFC Portchester.
Totton started the brighter of the 2 sides, creating an early chance after 8 minutes. Sam Richardson ran down the left, cut inside & saw his shot from the edge of the box saved by the keeper. Totton continued to press forward and after 12 minutes Matt Wotton burst forward, but his shot from 18 yards was saved by the keeper.
Totton took the lead on 25 minutes when Matt Wotton latched on to a pass from
Harry Edmondson, before firing home from just inside the box. Totton almost doubled the lead moments later when James Matthews ran through the middle and played in Matt Wotton, but his shot was pushed behind by the keeper.
Totton increased their lead on 28 minutes from a corner. Harry Edmondson played the ball to Matt Wotton and he drilled the ball home from the edge of the 6 yard box. Totton’s third goal came just 2 minutes later when Connor Stevens scored from 10 yards after some good work from Jack Diaper down the right.

With 50 minutes gone a good move down the right ended with Matt Wotton getting to the by-line and cutting the ball back to George Toal, but he shot over bar from inside the box. On 55 minutes Tyler Beech ran forward from defence which ended with his 25 yard shot saved by the keeper.
Despite the blustery conditions, Totton continued to control the game but were unable to create any clear cut chances. Portchester rarely threatened, but it took a great defensive tackle on the edge of his own box from Patryk Lachowicz to deny the home side a shot on goal.
On 85 minutes Totton were awarded a free kick 30 yards out to the left of the goal. Sam Muddiman stepped up and fired the ball over the keeper to make it 4-0. Harry Edmondson then received a yellow card for a strong challenge on the half way line.
In the final minute, James Matthews beat 2 players before winning a free kick just outside the box. He took the resulting kick which was saved low down at the near post by the keeper.
