AFC Totton 3-3 Sholing

Despite leading for most of the game, Totton had to come from behind in stoppage time to take a share of the spoils in this 6 goal thriller.

Totton started well & had a good chance after just 5 minutes. Shahram Jalal was played in by Josh Carey, but his shot from inside the box was saved by the keeper. After 10 minutes, a Sholing attack ended with a 20 yard shot that was saved by keeper Mitchell Jackson.

With 20 minutes gone, Totton were awarded a free kick when Shahram Jalal was fouled 20 yards out to the right side of the box. Sam Richardson curled the ball around the wall & into the bottom corner of the net to make it 1-0. Sholing responded with an attack that ended with a 25 yard shot going over the bar.

After 25 minutes, Sam Richardson drove a free kick to Jack Diaper who was 25 yards from goal. He played the ball wide to James Matthews who shot past the upright from a tight angle. With 39 minutes gone, Totton doubled their lead. Josh Carey received the ball inside the box, but his shot was blocked by the keeper & James Matthews fired home the rebound.

Half time: AFC Totton 2-0 Sholing

Totton began the second half well & after 55 minutes Shahram Jalal drove a 25 yard free kick into body of the keeper from a central position. Totton continued to press forward & went close after 60 minutes. Dominic Kay passed to James Matthews who ran down the right & cut the ball back to Josh Carey, but his shot was straight at the keeper.

On 66 minutes Patryk Lachowicz burst forward from defence, running on to a Tyler Beech through ball. His shot from inside the box was pushed away by the keeper for a corner. The resulting kick from James Matthews was headed back across goal by Josh Carey & Dominic Kay saw his header saved. At the other end, the Totton centre backs Tyler Beech & Ben Pike were working hard to keep Sholing at bay.

Sholing went close after 78 minutes when keeper Mitchell Jackson pushed a 25 yard free kick over the bar. However, minutes later Sholing pulled a goal back when they broke down the left, the ball was played inside the box & fired home from close range.

After 83 minutes James Matthews ran forward from a central position & fired just wide of the upright from 20 yards out. In the last minute of normal time, Sholing got an equaliser to make it 2-2 when a run down the right saw the player cut inside & fire home from close range.

Sholing then took the lead in the 2nd minute of stoppage time from a 25 yard free kick. The initial strike was saved by Mitchell Jackson, but the rebound was tapped home. Totton didn’t give up & in the 4th minute of added time were awarded a free kick just outside the box. James Matthews curled the ball in & Josh Carey rose to head home to make it 3-3.
