West Division Review
By Terry Bagshaw
Just four matches in the West Division this weekend but the games that did go ahead remarkably produced five braces and a hat-trick.
Taunton increased their lead over Salisbury at the top of the table to twelve points by avenging their only defeat of the season so far, winning 2-0 at Yate with two goals from Shane White.
Winchester skipper Jamie Barron also weighed in with a pair in the Citizens 2-0 home win over Didcot. Barron’s first was an incredible strike from inside the centre circle and he later added a second from the penalty spot to move Winchester into fourth spot.
Evesham were left stunned following a 5-2 home reverse to Cirencester. Two goals for the visitors from Henry Spalding and the day’s hat-trick from who else but Ben Whitehead who now has 30 for the season. Matt Liddiard replied with both for Evesham.
Wimborne moved up to eighth position by beating Larkhall 3-1 for their first away win of the year. Toby Holmes double sees him now in second place in the division goal-scoring chart on 21.
Two midweek games of interest for the Stags who currently sit in seventh position on 47 points. Wimborne (46) travel to Taunton on Tuesday while Bideford (45) are at Kidlington on Wednesday.
