AFC Totton are delighted to confirm the appointment of David Wright as the club’s new Director of Football, succeeding James Beattie, who departed to join Reading FC.

David brings with him over 20 years of experience in professional football, with a proven track record in player development, coaching, recruitment, and football operations having held senior leadership positions within several highly regarded academies and clubs.  

His most recent roles include Academy Director at Stoke City, Head of Recruitment and Football Performance at Portsmouth FC, Academy Recruitment Manager at Brighton & Hove Albion and more recently helping Southampton FC, with their young player national recruitment.

His appointment marks a major step forward in the club’s commitment to building a strong and sustainable football structure as it continues its journey in the National League South.

The Director of Football will work closely with First Team Manager, Jimmy Ball, supporting all aspects of football strategy, recruitment, and player development to ensure alignment across the club.

Jimmy Ball added: “I’m delighted that Dave has been added to the backroom team.

"I have worked with Dave twice in my career and he is a top professional and a great guy, his knowledge and experience will help the club progress both on and off the field!"

"Working alongside Jimmy again is something I’m really looking forward to.  We’ve got a great understanding of how we want the game to be played and how to create an environment that helps players develop and thrive.

"The aim is to continue strengthening recruitment processes, align the football pathway from youth to first team, and build a long-term structure that supports sustainable success.  I’m excited to contribute to the club’s vision and help it continue to move forward!”
