Highlighted charity for the match: AFC Totton vs Frome Town - 27/09/25
Headway Southampton and West Wessex are taking place in “Walk the Test Way 2025” – an annual fundraiser organised by The Romsey Rotary Club
Headway, Southampton (charity no. 1058717) is a local charity with a team based in Totton. It offers rehabilitation, support and advice to adults with an acquired brain injury (ABI), across Southampton, New Forest, Eastleigh, Romsey, Salisbury and surrounding areas.
Annually they offer support, advice and rehabilitation support to over 200 local adults, providing support to families and carers while raising awareness of the challenges of having an ABI.
In 2023/24 9.834 people across the SE Hampshire were admitted to a local hospital with an ABI (Headway UK date), equating to 27 people a day and 1.1 person every hour.
An ABI can be the result of a variety of causes, e.g., falls and accidents, head trauma, tumours, and strokes and can happen to anyone at any time in their lifetime with every ABI affecting someone differently. Coming to terms with the effects for individuals, their families, friends and carers, can be very distressing and difficult.
The support provided addresses various needs and is delivered through a wide range of group and 1:1-person centred activities in the Day Centres, On-line, in community settings and as Outreach.
On Sunday 28th September 2025 a team from Headway Southampton and West Wessex are walking various distances of “Walking the Test 2025”. The team have worked training as they are taking on various distances including some doing the 25.5 miles, others the slightly smaller distances of 16 and 8 miles.
