This is what Stags boss Steve Hollicks had to say after a hectic weekend for him, his coaching staff and the playing squad.
In terms of commitment and attitude I couldn’t have asked more from the squad over this weekend. Firstly we started out on Friday with the friendly against Team Solent and then we had the Weymouth 125 tournament on Saturday.
We were missing a few of the squad on both days, so others had to step in and play out of position, or play more than we would have liked at this stage in pre-season, but all of the players did really well.
The focus will always be on us in pre-season regardless of the opposition that we face. We have really tested the players over the last couple of days.
The coaching staff have been working really hard on the principles of how we want to play this season, but it’s the players have to take the credit for taking the information in and executing what is being asked of them. The excellent pitches certainly helped this on both days, The management team are learning more and more about the players and the squad as a whole in every game that we play. We have lots to take away and work on over the remainder of the pre-season programme.
The squad is narrowing down and starting to take shape, the coaching staff are all working hard behind the scenes to ensure that come the 8th August, we will all ready for the tough test facing us away at Taunton.
