AFC Totton v Tiverton Town Preview
Just a week after suffering a 2-0 defeat in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy at Ladysmead, the home of Tiverton, the Stags have to face the Devon club once again. This Saturday though the game is at The Testwood Stadium (3pm) and its back to the bread and butter of Southern League football.
Totton’s league form has improved recently and Steve Hollick will want to see that continue this weekend. The Stags will be very keen to pull further away from the foot of the Division One (South & West) table by taking the three points off of Tivvy, but in order to do that the Stags know that they will need to improve on last week’s showing in Devon. Totton’s boss Steve Hollick felt that his side never managed to get their passing game going at all at Ladysmead and as a result they let Tiverton get the upper hand and they proceeded to punish the Stags for their slackness.
It will be interesting to see how Totton approach the game on Saturday. After talking to some of the players after last week’s game they seemed determined to be better this week. Being in front of their home crowd will help, so ‘fingers crossed’ as they say. A repeat of last seasons fixture at The Testwood Stadium would be nice, on that occasion the Stags ran out 1-0 winners with the goal coming from James Jennings.
Don’t forget that this Saturday is ‘Non League day’! For those unfamiliar with ‘Non League Day’ It is a day set aside by Non League clubs up and down the country to try and attract Premier and Championship fans to their games whilst their favourite pro club has the weekend off due to it being an international weekend.
Non League clubs usually come up with some sort of initiative to try and attract these fans who will otherwise be without their footy fix. The Stags for their part are reducing admission prices for this Saturday’s game. It will cost just £5 for adults £3 for Oap’s and Students and £1 for under 16’s.
