Winchester City v AFC Totton Preview
After another bitterly disappointing result in the FA Cup at AFC Portchester on Saturday, Steve Hollick must somehow get his players prepared for a daunting looking Evo Stik Southern league fixture at local rivals Winchester City tomorrow (3pm).
Steve Hollick told the Daily Echo that his players were ‘hurting’ after the defeat on Saturday. So, it will be interesting to see how they react with only 48 hours passing since that game.
Our opponents Winchester City have had a free scoring start to the season after their return to the Southern League. The ‘Citizens’ have won three, drawn one and lost one of their first five games, scoring nineteen goals in those games and conceding nine. They have a prolific striker in Warren Bentley, but they have goals right through their side, so there is plenty of food for thought for the Totton management team as we head into this game.
The last fixture between the sides at The Denplan stadium took place in March 2011. On that occasion the Stags run out 3-1 winners in the 2010/11 Hampshire Senior Cup semi final. Totton’s goals that night were scored by Michael Charles (2) and Tom Price. A repeat result tomorrow would be very nice and much needed for Steve Hollick, his players, his staff and the fans.
