STAGS’ PRE-SEASON GETS UNDERWAY

AFC Totton made the short trip across Southampton to take on Southern League counterparts Sholing at the Mortgage Decisions Stadium in the Mally's Cup 1st leg . As is often the case in pre-season, the Stags started with one XI and finished the game with a completely different one, so we’ll leave team sheets and substitutions aside for this one.

Sholing took the lead in the first half after an error from the trialist goalkeeper, who spilled Michael Folivi’s effort. The ball dropped kindly for Tommy WILLARD, who poked home to put the Boatmen in front.

Totton responded shortly before the break when new signing Reece Fleet’s cross was nodded down by another trialist, allowing Vaughn COVIL to apply the finishing touch and send the sides into the interval level. HT 1-1

Following a host of changes at the restart, Totton began the second half brightly and looked lively as Tony Lee narrowly missed connecting with Tanner’s whipped cross. However, on the hour mark, LEE made no mistake at the second attempt, heading Reuben Austin’s cross from the left into the corner of the net to give the Stags the lead.

Totton looked to be on course for victory, but Tommy LEE-HIGGS was on hand to restore parity for the hosts. After an initial effort was blocked, Lee-Higgs reacted quickest to bundle the loose ball home, ensuring the opening leg of the Mally Thomas Cup ended all square. FT 2-2

Totton will face Sholing in the second leg of the Mally Thomas Cup on Saturday 1 August at the Snows Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00pm.
