THE BASICS

Basingstoke Town Football Club was established in 1896 by a merger of Aldworth United and Basingstoke Albion. Their nickname is The ‘Stoke and they now play their home matches at the Winklebury Football Complex.

HAVE THEY GENERALLY BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THE LEAGUE?
They were Hampshire League Champions three times in the late-60s and early-70s, and won the Southern League Championship in 1984/85.

HOW DID THEY GET ON LAST SEASON?
Last season, Basingstoke Town won the Isthmian League South Central Division to join AFC Totton in being promoted to the Southern League Premier Division South. They won the title by two points from Walton & Hersham, who were also promoted via the Play-Offs.

HAVE AFC TOTTON PLAYED THEM RECENTLY?
The two teams have met five times in competitive matches since the 2012/13 season, when Jonathan Davies, James Coutts and Dave Allen scored the goals in a 3-0 home win for The Stags in FA Trophy 3rd Round Qualifying. The most recent competitive meeting was in the FA Cup Preliminary Round at the beginning of the 2021/22 season. Brett Williams gave Totton the lead at Basingstoke with a 53rd-minute penalty but two goals from Conor Lynch won it for the home side.

On 30 July 2022, Basingstoke visited AFC Totton for a pre-season friendly. Scott Rendell scored with a penalty on 64 minutes but a trialist equalised with virtually the last kick of the game.

DO WE HAVE CURRENT OR FORMER PLAYERS IN COMMON?
Charlie Kennedy played for Basingstoke for three years from the start of the 2016/17 season. He became their captain in 2018/19.

Basingstoke striker Stefan Brown made history with AFC Totton when he stepped off the bench in the FA Cup 1st Round tie against Bradford Park Avenue to record the fastest ever FA Cup hat-trick by a substitute in an emphatic 8-1 win for The Stags in November 2011, that set-up the famous 2nd Round visit of Bristol Rovers. Brown returned to Basingstoke in July 2021 after several seasons away playing for Hungerford Town, Maidenhead United, Wealdstone, Oxford City and Leatherhead.

WHO IS THEIR MANAGER NOW?
Dan Brownlie served as Assistant Manager to three successive managers at Basingstoke before eventually being offered the top job in 2019, taking over from former Portsmouth midfielder Martin Kuhl after guiding the team to a goalless draw with Totton while acting as caretaker. He took The ‘Stoke to a fifth-place in the Isthmian League South Central Division in 2021/22. They lost out to Chertsey Town in the Promotion Play-Offs but came back stronger last season to claim their place at Step 3.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE GAME?
The match takes place at Winklebury Football Complex, Winklebury Way, Basingstoke RG23 8BF on Monday 28 August – Kick-Off at 3:00pm.

CAN I BUY TICKETS?
Tickets will be available at the turnstile on the day.
