North Leigh hammer home five against Totton
Attendance – 68
ELLIOTT Osbourne-Ricketts scores twice for North Leigh in a 5-0 win.
It was always going to be an uphill battle from the start, and not just because of the slanted pitch – Keiran Sanders chipped the ball over Stags ‘keeper, Steve Mowthorpe, in the third minute to open the scoring for the home side at Eynsham Park.
The Stags started to look more promising in their passing after the first goal, but could do nothing to stop Osbourne-Ricketts’ wonder strike from the corner of the box, to make it 2-0 before the break, but the Millers were just getting warmed up.
Totton had a very promising start to the second half, with the first 10 minutes being very even between both sides. The next goal was to be crucial either way.
North Leigh were given a free kick after Patrick Wilson’s late tackle with 15 minutes remaining. The shot was wickedly deflected off Jack Alexander, leaving Mowthorpe wrong-footed who could only watch the ball roll into the net.
The Millers weren’t done yet. Two minutes later, Osbourne-Ricketts replicated his earlier goal at the other end, to earn his second of the game and a man of the match award.
Morgan Williams made it five before the full time whistle after finding himself one-on-one with goalkeeper, Mowthorpe. Williams calmly went round the Totton goalie and dispatched it into the open goal to complete the rout.
Stags manager, Steve Hollick, said: “We need to realise how difficult this league really is. We can’t give them a head-start like we did today, we can’t switch off and give away sloppy goals.”
The team have the chance to get back on a winning run with two games this week as they look for an improved performance at home against Mangotsfield United on Tuesday night (KO &-45pm) and Bishops Cleeve on Saturday (KO 3pm).
