STAGS PRE-SEASON OFF TO A FLYER
Brockenhurst 0 AFC Totton 5
AFC Totton began their pre-season schedule with a short trip to Wessex League neighbours Brockenhurst. Manager Steve Hollick brought a squad of 21 players to choose from. The only notable absence was new signing Luke Dempsey.
The game got off to a quick start after only 5 minutes, Taylor Edwards was upended on the edge of the area and Mike GOSNEY stepped up and swept his Freekick in off the post. Brockenhurst slowly edged their way back into the game and after 18 minutes, Stags stopper Steve Mowthorpe was called upon and made a great save from a Brockenhurst half volley. The Stags were getting closer to extending their lead, but came in at Half Time a goal to the good. HT 0-1
The Stags made 8 changes at half time, with Mowthorpe, Gosney and Watts the only remaining players from the 1st period. The Second half started at the same rate as the 1st, when new signing Mark LILLEY found himself in a 1 on 1 situation and cooly slotted home past the advancing keeper. The Stags then added a 3rd in the 65th minute, as Gosney flighted in a corner, which was headed home by Stuart MOTT. As Brockenhurst began to tire and The Stags second half continued to improve, Totton then struck 2 goals in 5 minutes to finish the game off. First, Nick WATTS advanced down the right wing and instead of playing it into the area, had a shot himself from a narrow angle, which beat the keeper at his near post. With just 7 minutes remaining, Mott made his way into the area and made a cut back for LILLEY who added his second and The Stags 5th of the evening.
