AFC Totton AFC Totton Pitching In - Partners with Southern Football League

The Stags return to FA Trophy action tomorrow when take take on Bet-Victor Premier South outfit Weston Super Mare AFC in the 1st qualifying round.

Club Stats man Malc Tombs told me that this is only the 2nd time the two clubs have faced each other. On the other occasion that the two clubs met, it was at the Stags old ground (Testwood Park) in the preliminary round of the FA Cup, and that was on 21st August 1999. On that occasion the Seagulls ran out 2-1 winners. The Stags goal came from captain Kevin Murphy.

You may recognise some of the names in the Totton side that day…..

Wayne Shaw, Rob Walker, Mike Collins, Kevin Murphy, Martin Cornwall, Kevin Reacord, Sean New, Matt Hussey, Mick Ross, Steve Jones, Andy Gray. SUBS Andy Harrington, Anthony Summers and James Sherrington.

Incidentally, that season Weston Super Mare were in Southern League Division One West where they finished in mid-table, whilst the Stags were in the Jewson Wessex Premier where they finished 4th.

This season Weston are sat comfortably in mid-table in the Premier south division having won 5, drawn 4 and lost 4 of their 13 games played so far. Tomorrows game looks to be an interesting tie, the Seagulls possess some great firepower with their front two of Owen Howe and Ben Whitehead well known to us. The Stags will be looking to bounce back quickly after last weeks loss to Thatcham Town. Boss Louis Langdown will be reminding his players of how well they performed in their previous outing in the FA trophy when they saw off Slimbridge 1-0 at Wisloe Road.

If tomorrows tie is level after 90 minutes there will be 30 minutes Extra time and penalties IF needed.
