Now the festive period has passed we can confirm some player movement and offer a squad update.
Firstly some departure and thanks. Ben Cooper returns to parent club AFC Bournemouth to continue his football education at a crucial time for scholars as they look to secure professional contracts. We are extremely grateful to Carl Fletcher (AFCB U18’s Manager) and his staff team for placing their prospects in the hands of our management team at AFC Totton. We all wish Ben the very best in his footballing career.
Daniel Munday departs with a host of Wessex Premier sides chasing his signature and Mitchell Hunt has joined Andover Town on a permanent basis. The club, Louis and Adam, wish both players the very best for the future and thank them for their dedication while representing AFC Totton. We currently do not operate with a reserve team and finding players ‘game time’ can be a difficult conundrum. As such, positive links have been forged with Wessex League Clubs to offer those that require more opportunity to play. Dylan Knight, and Steven Mowthorpe are signed to Andover Town and Moneyfields respectively on dual registration. The Club, and Louis in particular, have made it clear both are valued members of our squad and are seen as important part of the team moving forward.
Former captain Liam Hibberd has left the club for non footballing reasons. Like Patrick Wilson before him, Liam was offered a promotion at work that would restrict his time commitments at Southern League level. We hope to see them both playing football again locally and thank them for wearing the AFC Totton shirt with pride.
New additions and welcomes. Connor York extends his stay from AFC Bournemouth and we are delighted with this news. Connor’s performances have consistently improved and he has become a stand out player for the side with his expert defending and energetic attacking play. Connor will be joined by his AFC Bournemouth team mate, our newest recruit Curtis Young (pictured).
Curtis joins on work experience and will add to the forward options available to Louis. We officially welcome Curtis to the stags family along with recent additions Marley Ridge, Alfy Whittingham and Charlie Searle.
We also warmly welcome another important member to the team in the shape of new Sports Therapist Gary Ede. Gary supports the work of our resident and respected therapist Dave Penny who has now committed to the Vice Chairman role. Gary has recent experience serving Gosport Borough FC in the same capacity and has worked tirelessly with Dave and Josh Ward in clearing the treatment room and returning the likes of Nathaniel Sherborne, Ashley Jarvis and Jack Vallis to the squad.
It is anticipated that next week may see one or two further signings as we look to secure our Southern League status.
