Stags legendary boss Stuart Ritchie paid a glowing tribute to Nathaniel Sherborne on the eve of Sherbs testimonial against Bristol Rovers. It was Ritchie who persuaded Sherborne to sign for Totton in 2007. The Stags striker brings down the curtain on 11 years with the club this weekend.
Stuart said ‘Sherbs for me was one of the best signings I ever made.
You could see from the start he had pace and movement and the quality to score goals. I was desperate to sign him during our vase run 2007 but Sherbs was adamant he would see the season out with Alton. That alone for me showed the quality of the man I was about to sign.’
Stu added, ‘I’m positive the outcome of the Wembley final would have been different with Sherbs involved. As we climbed the leagues Sherbs scored at every level and capped by a wonderful header against Bristol Rovers. I have no doubt he had the ability to play higher than he did. It was always a privilege to have him at Totton a truly wonderful guy who deserves all the accolades for what he achieved with me and beyond. A true gentleman in every sense and would like to wish him well in the future.’
Enjoy your testimonial Sherbs!
