MATCH PREVIEW: SUTTON UNITED

The Stags return to the Snows Stadium this Saturday afternoon for their first home fixture of the 2026/27 pre-season campaign as they welcome National League outfit Sutton United.

Following last weekend’s entertaining 2-2 draw away at Sholing, Scott Rendell’s side will be looking to continue building match sharpness and fitness as preparations for the new season gather pace.

Supporters will also get their first opportunity to see the Stags in action on home turf this summer, with a host of new signings expected to feature alongside several trialists as the squad continues to take shape ahead of the new campaign.

One of the more familiar links between the two clubs comes in the form of former goalkeeper Wayne Shaw. Shaw became a household name during Sutton’s memorable FA Cup run in 2017 after the infamous ‘Piegate’ incident during their fifth-round tie against Arsenal, a moment that made headlines around the world.

Our visitors enjoyed one of the most successful periods in their history just a few years ago. Sutton recorded their highest-ever league finish in the 2021/22 season, narrowly missing out on the League Two play-offs by a single point after finishing eighth. However, their stay in the English Football League came to an end following relegation in 2023/24, and they now find themselves back in the National League.

Last season saw the U’s finish 19th in the National League, with midfielder Lewis Simper ending the campaign as the club’s leading scorer after netting 12 goals in 45 league appearances.

Saturday’s fixture will also mark the first-ever meeting between AFC Totton and Sutton United, making it another piece of club history for supporters to witness.

Tickets for this individual fixture are available HERE, while supporters can also purchase a Pre-Season Bundle HERE to attend all four home pre-season friendlies. Looking ahead to the new campaign, you can also secure your 2026/27 Season Ticket HERE and join us in celebrating 140 years of AFC Totton.

There will also be another historic occasion before kick-off as the club officially unveils its new address in honour of lifelong supporter Mally Thomas, a much-loved figure whose dedication to AFC Totton spanned decades. The access road leading to the Snows Stadium will be renamed Mally’s Way, ensuring his legacy remains part of the club’s future for generations to come. Supporters are invited to attend the official opening ceremony, which will take place at 1:00pm.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Snows Stadium for what promises to be another enjoyable afternoon of pre-season football.
