AFC Totton put on a tremendous performance against Torquay United and progress in the Cup!
In the all-white cup kit, looking to bounce back after two back-to-back defeats.
The sixth minute, a golden chance was presented to Torquay after Jordan Young pounced on a back pass, but his shot slid past the post.
Four minutes later, Malachi Linton got in behind The Gulls, rounded the ‘keeper but saw his shot blocked as it was heading in.
Malachi would then come off eleven minutes later, forced off with an injury.
The deadlock was broken in the 31st minute, Scott Rendell headed home a Christos Batzelis cross to give the home side the lead.
Torquay looked to reply straight away with a shot from distance three minutes later, but it went inches wide of the post.
At half-time The Stags led 1-0 but Torquay were just getting back into it before the break.
And they had the better of the play early on but nothing that troubled Ryan Gosney in goal.
A minute before the goal, Craig Tanner picked out Tyler Cordner and his shot from outside the box was saved by James Hamon.
In the 65th minute Totton doubled their lead through the centre-half Luke Hallett as he headed home from a corner kick.
Good work from Ryan Jackson down the right and he crossed for Rendell who cushioned the ball for Christie Ward but he sliced his shot wide.
The 74th minute saw Torquay have another great chance with a ball to the back-post, but Jordan Thomas skied his effort.
Totton should’ve made it three when Hisham Kasimu chased down the defenders and took it past the goalie, and with the goal gaping, he just dragged his shot wide.
Full-time, Totton beat Torquay and progress to the next round!
