WESTON-SUPER-MARE – THEIR SEASON SO FAR:

The Seagulls have had an excellent start to the season, sitting 2nd with 22 points from nine games. They did lose their opening game of the season, away at the current league leaders, Hornchurch, 3-2.

However, since that game they haven’t lost again and after drawing 0-0 with Chelmsford in the second game of the season, they have won every other game in the National League South.

In those seven league games they have won, they have just conceded two goals, and kept five clean sheets whilst also scoring 14 at the other end of the pitch.

Those wins saw them beat, Chippenham Town (1-2), Maidenhead (1-0), Farnborough (1-3), Dagenham & Redbridge (3-0), Maidstone United (3-0), Enfield Town (0-1) and Chesham United (1-0).

In the FA Cup they have seen one draw and two wins, requiring a replay to get past Taunton Town in the second qualifying round and last time out winning 0-2 at Poole Town in the third qualifying round.

OPPOSITION PLAYERS TO WATCH:

DEFENCE: MICHAEL SMITH

After spells in his native Northern Ireland with Ballyclare Comrades and Ballymena United, Michael moved to England in 2011 when he signed for Bristol Rovers. After earning a place in the PFA League Two team of the year in 2013/14 he then earned a move to Peterborough United. Michael spent three years with The Posh before joining Hearts of Midlothian.

During his six seasons in Edinburgh he won the Scottish Championship and was a Scottish Cup runner-up on three occasions. In 2023 he moved to Yeovil Town and helped his new club to the National League South title in his first season, before joining Weston in July 2025 when he left Huish Park.

Michael is the owner of 19 Northern Ireland caps, scoring one goal against Germany in 2019.

MIDFIELD: JACOB JAGGER CANE

Cane joined the Exeter City academy at a young age and progressed up through the ranks with the Grecians, becoming an under-18 player at the start of the 2010-2011 season. While an under-18 player at Exeter, the midfielder was part of the side that reached the National League Youth Alliance cup final before he signed his first professional contract in May 2012. During 2012-2013, Cane made one appearance and was an unused substitute once for the Grecians.

During his time at Exeter, Jacob had two separate loan spells with Poole Town, which saw him win three trophies and he also had a spell at Weymouth.

In May 2014, Cane was released by Exeter having made one appearance and been an unused substitute once for the first-team during his time at Exeter.

In the summer of 2014, Cane joined Weston for the first team and had a successful five years in BS24, having been made club captain from January 2018 and lifting the Somerset Premier Cup 2017-2018. Cane made 206 appearances for the Seagulls and was an unused substitute 14 times, as he scored 14 goals and assisted 21 goals during his first spell with the Seagulls.

In June 2019, Cane left the Seagulls and headed to National League North side Hereford FC, going on to be a regular during the early stages of their season.

He rejoined Weston on loan in November 2019, making ten appearances and assisting two goals over a two-month period before returning to Hereford in January.

Following the curtailed 2019-2020 season, Cane departed Hereford FC having made 23 appearances and being an unused substitute twice, scoring one goal and getting three assists during his time at Edgar Street.

The energetic midfielder returned to the Seagulls permanently in July 2020 and was part of the Seagulls side that saw the club win the Southern League Premier South title in 2023 and return to the National League South after four years away.

ATTACK: LOUIS BRITTON

After successful spells with Brislington and Mangotsfield United, Louis earned a move to Bristol City in 2019. Whilst at Ashton Gate, Louis spent time out on loan at several clubs, most notably at Waterford where he found the back of the net on a regular basis. After leaving Bristol City in 2022, the tall striker enjoyed prolific spells at Maldon & Tiptree and Bristol Manor Farm before joining Weston in March 2025.

So far this season, Britton is on fire, scoring eight goals in all competitions so far and in the league sits just behind Tony Lee in the goalscoring charts.
