TOTTON CLAIM FIRST PRE-SEASON VICTORY
AFC Totton made the short trip across the M27 for their third pre-season fixture, taking on Isthmian League South Central Division side Moneyfields FC at the John Jenkins Stadium.
The Stags started brightly and created a couple of headed opportunities inside the six-yard box. However, neither effort was on target and the Moneyfields goalkeeper was never seriously tested.
Totton did not have to wait long for the breakthrough. In the 18th minute, Sol Wanjau-Smith was brought down in the penalty area after a driving run down the left flank. Tony Lee stepped up and emphatically dispatched the resulting spot-kick, giving the Moneyfields goalkeeper no chance with a powerful finish.
The visitors continued to dominate possession for the remainder of the first half without creating many clear-cut opportunities and deservedly went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Moneyfields began the second half on the front foot, but the Stags capitalised on a swift counter-attack following a home corner to double their advantage in the 53rd minute. A trialist kept his composure to slot the ball past the goalkeeper and made it 2-0.
Buoyed by their second goal, Totton continued to press forward and added a third shortly afterwards. Another trialist found the bottom corner with a low strike from outside the penalty area to put the result beyond doubt.
The Stags continued to search for a fourth goal but were unable to add to their tally, ultimately running out comfortable 3-0 winners to secure their first victory of pre-season.
Totton continue their preparations for the new campaign on Friday when they welcome Bournemouth XI to the Snows Stadium.
