Lymington Town_600x600px.pngIt has been almost two months since second-half substitute Freddie Bullard’s goal three minutes from time, knocked the Stags out of the Southern League Challenge Cup on a Tuesday evening at the Snows Stadium and propelled Lymington Town into the 3rd Round.

Bullard was on target again in both of their next two games but he was unable to deliver victory in either one – a 2-2 draw at home to Willand Rovers and a 2-3 reversal at Melksham Town. Then, after hosting a goalless draw with Cirencester Town, they risked becoming the first team this season to drop league points to beleaguered Barnstaple Town after going from 3-0 up to 3-2 and having to hold on for the last 7 minutes to secure the win.

But 7 days later, the number 7 proved not so lucky for the Linnets when they shipped more than half-a-dozen at home to Paulton Rovers, which included a hat-trick from the Southern League Div.1 South top scorer Leighton Thomas – who wore the No.7 shirt for the Rovers at the Snows Stadium recently.

Lymington produced a much better performance when the two sides met again three days later in the Southern League Challenge Cup, even leading by a single goal going into stoppage time at the end of the match when Thomas popped up to send the tie to a penalty shoot-out, from which Rovers subsequently triumphed.

Since then, they’ve achieved a creditable 2-1 away win at mid-table Highworth Town, progressed in the Hampshire Senior Cup via a 3-1 despatching of Fleet Town from the Combined Counties League Premier Division South and, in their most recent match on 11 December, lost 1-4 at home to Plymouth Parkway.

By the time they revisit the Snows Stadium, Lymington will have enjoyed a 16-day break, due in part to the fact that our division contains 19 teams so every team sits out a matchday twice a season and Saturday 18 December just happens to have been Lymington’s turn.

During this match, AFC Totton will be supporting the #NoHomeKit campaign, on behalf of the homelessness charity Shelter.
