YOUNG STAGS SECURE THE DOUBLE

AFC Totton 6 Eastleigh Whites 1

By Sean McGlead at Testwood Rec

The Stags superb u16’s side today completed the double after securing the Southampton Youth League championship with a convincing 6-1 victory over Eastleigh whites.

There were a few half chances in the opening stages for both sides, but Totton started to take control of the game and they were unfortunate not to take the lead when they hit the crossbar.

Once the boys got into their stride they tore Eastleigh apart with some scintillating football that was very pleasing on the eye.

James PARKER TROTT gave the Stags the lead after a free kick from Connor Summers came into the box, the Eastleigh defenders failed to deal with it and the Totton No 9 punished them, stabbing home from close range.

The Stags made it 2-0 when another Summers free kick from the left went in off of an unfortunate Eastleigh defender.

Totton made it 3-0 when a lovely ball by Ollie Dennett was put away by Harry HARRIS.

Eastleigh reduced the arrears after the break, but Totton soon restored their three goal advantage when a 20 yard shot from DENNETT was dropped over the line by the Eastleigh keeper.

Harry HARRIS then made it 5-1 for the Stags with a clinical finish. The Stags thought they had added a sixth goal when an outrageous finish by Owen feee flew into the far side of the net from a tight angle on the right, only for the goal to be ruled out by a linesmans flag.

However FEE was not to be denied when he did add the 6th goal with a lovely finish after some good build up play.

Totton should have had a seventh goal after a foul on Harry Harris resulted in the Stags being awarded a penalty kick. Owen Fee stepped up to put the kick straight into the keepers arms.

Having seen these boys play a few times this season I have been very impressed with them each time that I have watched them. Manager Shawn Kitcher has done a superb job with these lads and he deserves huge credit for developing them into useful young players, they really do play some great football.

Lads such as Owen Fee, Harry Harris and Ollie Dennett were hugely impressive today, but none of these Totton lads were less than 8 out of 10.

To win the league is a tremendous achievement and this is added to the Hampshire FA Cup, which these boys won back in March.

Well done to all of the U16 players for your achievements this season, you are a credit to your manager, your parents and to AFC Totton.

Also thanks to those Totton fans who came along to cheer the boys on today!
