AFC Totton are delighted to welcome Matthew Chandler
AFC Totton are delighted to announce the signing of Canadian defender Matthew
Chandler, following an impressive trial period with the club throughout pre-season.
The towering 6ft 6in centre-back has caught the eye during his time with the Stags and
now joins the squad ahead of the new campaign, bringing experience from Canada, the
United States and Australia.
Chandler came through the youth ranks at Markham FC before embarking on an
impressive collegiate career in the United States. He spent four years at St. John's
University, where he established himself as a commanding defender while earning Big
East Conference recognition on the pitch and All-Academic honours throughout his
time there. He graduated with a degree in Sports Management, alongside a minor in
Business.
He then completed a master's degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where
he captained the men's soccer team and scored in the opening match of the 2022
season.
His club career has included spells with Manhattan SC in USL League Two and Blue
Devils FC in League1 Ontario, where his performances earned him League1 Ontario
Second Team All-Star honours.
In 2023, Chandler signed for Valour FC in the Canadian Premier League, making his
professional debut before suffering an unfortunate ACL injury that cut his season short.
He returned strongly with North Toronto Nitros in 2024, earning League1 Ontario
Second Team All-Star recognition for a second time before moving to Australia to join
Adelaide Comets.
Comfortable in possession and dominant in the air, Chandler adds strength, height and
leadership to the AFC Totton defence. His performances during pre-season have
already shown the qualities he can bring to the Stags, and everyone at the club is
delighted to secure his signature ahead of the new season.
Everyone at AFC Totton would like to welcome Matthew to the club and wish him every
success in a Stags shirt.
