Achieved several successful playing seasons with the likes of Basingstoke Town, Salisbury FC, Dorchester Town, Gosport Borough and Poole Town. After achieving promotion with Poole Town Glenn’s playing career was brought to an abrupt end due to a serious knee injury. This allowed Glenn’s focus to be channelled towards being part of Poole Town’s coaching setup before embarking on Blackfield and Langley’s meteoric rise from the Wessex League to the Southern Premier league that included several cup finals.

James played as a schoolboy for AFC Bournemouth, then for various non-league sides including Poole Town, Lymington and New Milton.James then became player coach at Bournemouth Poppies towards the end of his playing career, and then became first team manager the following season. Following success there James became Assistant Manager at Poole Town where he helped them to win the Southern League and Southern Premier. This is where his associate and friendship with Glenn began as he was a player there at the time. Glenn approached James to help him at Blackfield as his assistant where the pair went on to win the Wessex League in their first season at the club which was then followed that by winning the Southern League the following season and taking Blackfield & Langley to the Southern Premier. Following this James then made the move to AFC Totton.
