CHIPPENHAM TOWN – THEIR SEASON SO FAR:

Chippenham Town are currently in 21st place in the league so far, with 38 points from 42 games. CLICK HERE to view the full league table!

Their season got off to a challenging start, with the side struggling to find consistency in front of goal and keep clean sheets. Early league fixtures saw the Bluebirds pick up only one point in the first four matches.

At the end of August, Chippenham recorded a 1-0 home win against Worthing, their first of the season. However, they were unable to keep it going and lost their next two and drew one before FA Cup action, which saw an away win at Gloucester City.

Another league loss, this time to Enfield came before another FA Cup win, over Walton & Hersham away in the third qualifying round. Once again, a loss in the league before an FA Cup match, but they lost that too, 4-3 against Chelmsford.

The Bluebirds then a further eight games without a win, drawing just twice, before they managed to beat Tonbridge at home and secure their second win of the National League South season. After following up that win with a draw against Farnborough it looked like things might be turning around, but another four games lost, including one in the Wiltshire Shield, killed momentum.

Two games at the end of December and two games at the start of January, Chippenham went without loss, their longest run this season, with two wins and two draws. Unfortunately, they couldn’t continue that for the rest of January as in their final three games of the month, they suffered three defeats, conceding 12 goals and scoring just three.

February saw another couple of wins, three to be exact against Torquay, Maidstone and Maidenhead, three teams in the playoff hunt and they all finished 1-0 to the home side (Chippenham). Those wins lifted Chippenham off the foot of the table but with four away losses in February, if they were going to stay up, they needed to pick up more points to make up for the poor 2025.

March was Chippenham’s best month of the campaign so far, as they finally won more games than they lost in a month. Three wins against Enfield (1-0), Dover (1-2), and Eastbourne (5-2) were crucial as Enfield and Eastbourne were the teams around them in the league table. Chippenham’s two losses in this month came against playoff chasing Hemel Hempstead (3-2) and Chelmsford (0-1).

On Good Friday, Chippenham travelled to Bath City and lost 1-0 due to a late goal which all but seals their relegation out of step two.

OPPOSITION PLAYERS TO WATCH

GOALIE/DEFENCE: Will Henry

Signed permanently in the summer of 2021, the shot-stopper has been an ever present in the Bluebirds ever since.

Will first played for the club in the 2018/19 season making six league appearances on a one-month loan from Swindon Town, he then re-joined in 2019 on another short loan spell.

He was called up for the Keith Downing’s England U20 squad in 2017 for games against Italy and Czech Republic.

Will earned the Supporters Player of the Season award in 2023/24 season.

MIDFIELD: Sol Wanjau-Smith

Sol Wanjau-Smith is known for his direct attacking play, versatility across the front line, and experience at Step-Two football. He joined the Bluebirds in August 2025, bringing significant National League South experience and a proven goal threat.

Wanjau-Smith began his senior career in non-league football with Slimbridge, where his goal-scoring exploits drew attention from higher levels. He moved to Hungerford Town, making over 30 appearances and becoming a key attacking figure before earning a transfer to Maidstone United in the National League.

At Maidstone, Sol featured across multiple seasons, making 68 league appearances and playing a prominent role in one of the club’s most memorable campaigns, including helping the Stones reach the FA Cup Fifth Round, where he provided a key assist in their run, and contributing to play-off qualification.

In 2024/25, Wanjau-Smith joined Bath City, making several appearances and scoring a few goals in the National League South before re-joining Maidstone United on loan for the second half of the season, where he again featured prominently and helped the side reach the play-off final.

ATTACK: ANOINTED CHUKWU

A strong, physical striker capable of leading the line, Chukwu combines strength with mobility and a goal threat, making him a difficult opponent for defenders. Still in his mid-twenties, he continues to build on a well-travelled non-league career.

Chukwu began his career in the academy setup at Salford City, gaining early exposure to senior football and making an appearance at National League North level as a teenager. He later gained further experience through loan spells in the lower tiers with clubs including Ramsbottom United and Widnes, where he took his first steps into senior football.

A move back to the south of England saw Chukwu feature for a number of Essex-based sides, including East Thurrock United, Romford and Grays Athletic, building experience and adapting his game across different levels of non-league competition.

During the 2022/23 season, he had a spell with Cheshunt before returning to Grays Athletic and later finishing the campaign with Harrow Borough, continuing to develop as a forward and gain consistent game time.

Chukwu’s breakthrough came with Wingate & Finchley, where he enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 17 goals and helping the club reach the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs, establishing himself as a reliable goalscorer at step three.

His form earned him a move into National League South football with Welling United, where he continued to contribute before joining Enfield Town, playing a key role in their successful battle for survival during their first season at step two.

In 2025, Chukwu signed for Worthing, adding further National League South experience, before joining Chippenham Town on loan later that year to strengthen their attacking options.
