The AFC Totton Development Programme is a sports and education alternative provision with a
focus on football, supporting a variety of students who
:

  • Have been permanently excluded from school;
  • Are unable to attend school due to emotional or health needs;
  • Are at risk of disengaging in mainstream education;
  • Are at risk of permanent exclusion.

The Academy was originally created to build an environment for 16-to-19-year-olds to progress within
Sports Education. The football club is now offering an opportunity for students in Key Stage 3 and 4 who
are struggling in mainstream education.

At AFC Totton DP we have four programmes, which are:

  • Five days a week; Monday-Wednesday mornings of our education curriculum, plus Thursday and
    Friday mornings of football, led by Jimmy Ball and AFC Totton footballers.
  • Three days a week; Monday-Wednesday mornings of our education curriculum, only.
  • Two days a week of football (Thursday and Friday mornings),  led by Jimmy Ball and AFC Totton
    footballers.
  • One day of football, only - either Thursday or Friday mornings.

Morning sessions are 9:00am to 12:00-noon.

At AFC Totton DP, we aim to provide a learning environment which promotes resilience and well-being.

Our curriculum for the full programme will have a strong focus on maths and English to give all students
the basic foundations they need to access all other areas of their learning.

We have a highly skilled and committed team of staff who create an inclusive environment to support
students in regulating their own emotions.

Our football programme develops the students physically, psychologically and socially. It promotes
teamwork and improves students' confidence both on and off the pitch.

Our aim is to equip all of our students with the skills they need to reintegrate successfully back into
mainstream education.

At AFC Totton DP we will:

  • Deliver high-quality individualised learning programmes.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons which are appropriate to the student’s age, ability, interests and
