Hampshire Search and Rescue (HANTSAR) supports the work of the police in looking for vulnerable missing people. Since 2003, we have responded to over 1,000 requests by the police, and this year so far have attended 50 callouts.
Those we search for include people with mental health illnesses and concerns, depression and low mood, those living with dementia, and children, and over recent years we have been increasingly deployed to rescue flood victims and move them to a place of safety.
We are an all-volunteer charity, providing professionally-trained teams to assist the police and we are on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our specialisms include water, drone, rope, medical and incident management teams, and each volunteer has to achieve and annually renew around twenty Lowland Rescue competencies in areas such as radio communication, navigation and First Aid.
We run three vehicles – an Incident Control Unit, which is kitted out with computers, monitors, printers, thermal imaging cameras and radios and this vehicle is the command unit for any search. We also have an Incident Support Vehicle, and land rover and trailer, both of which can be used to transport passengers and specialist equipment such as stretchers, advanced medical equipment, drones and kit for water rescues.
We receive no external funding, so must raise the £80,000 that it costs us annually to provide this vital service (which assists the police with millions of pounds worth of human resource each year).
We are extremely grateful for any donations that we receive. You can find out more by visiting www.hantsar.org or our Facebook pages www.facebook.com/HampshireSAR Phone : 0330 330 9506
