FORMER IPSWICH TOWN YOUTH player Malachi Linton has signed for AFC Totton.

Now 24 years-old, the Ipswich-born centre-forward left The Tractor Boys’ academy in the summer of 2017 to join the youth set-up at Crewe Alexandra, where he remained for two years, playing for their Under-18 and Under-23 sides. He then signed for Lowestoft before making a return to the EFL by joining Wycombe Wanderers in September 2020.

During his spell with The Chairboys, Linton played on loan for Slough Town and King’s Lynn – for whom he scored eight goals in 28 National League games – before a free transfer took him to Yeovil Town in the summer of 2022. Upon his arrival at Huish Park, he told Yeovil’s media team: “I’m a dynamic forward with a lot of energy; I’m hungry to win and I’m hungry to score.”

The Glovers loaned him to Taunton Town for the first half of the 2023/24 season, and to Weymouth for the remainder of that same campaign. Injury resulted in his spell with The Terras being cut short, but five goals in 11 outings were enough to persuade manager Mark Molesley to bring Linton back to the Bob Lucas Stadium on a permanent deal in the summer of 2024.

Although Weymouth were subsequently relegated from the National League South last season, Linton – who is described on the Dorset Echo website as a target man – still managed to find the net on eight occasions in 35 appearances, according to the Transfermarkt.co.uk website.

AFC Totton boss Jimmy Ball said of his new signing:

“Malachi is a strong, dynamic centre-forward with plenty of experience playing at this level. He has been a little unlucky with injury here and there but nothing that poses an ongoing problem, so I’m confident he’s going to add an extra dimension to our attacking options and make a positive impact for us.”
